“Moonlight drowns out all but the brightest stars.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien

In some parts of Belgium, St. Martin’s Day is celebrated on November 11th.
It usually marks the beginning of the period of fasting before Christmas. Children and their parents gather around a hot drink (mulled wine for the adults) with handmade paper lanterns in hand.

I was absolutely freezing but the beautiful lights (and the satsuma’s) made it all worth it.

Have a lovely weekend,
Sara

  4. What gorgeous photos. I think I would love this celebration... although I wouldn't love the fasting until Christmas part. Yikes!

  9. Beautiful! We have that too, in the Netherlands. But ever since I've gotten older it started to pass me by more and more. Apart from a few screams by excited kids I didn't catch any of it this year. Your pictures make up for that though:)

  10. SO beautiful. And the handmade lanterns are seriously impressive. I think the snowflakes I made today might be looking a little lackluster now. xo

Merci beaucoup!

Come a little bit closer, hear what I have to say. Just like children sleepin', we could dream this night away.
