Yellow Mums – or Chrysanthemums – are my favorite flowers. It’s officially autumn when you see Mums alongside pumpkins at the farmer’s market or at the pumpkin patch. Their beautiful ocher color brightens up any gloomy autumn day.
European gentlemen
should know that you never surprise a lady with Mums because they actually symbolize
death. On All Saints’ day (the day after Halloween), many families gather together
around a large comforting meal after leaving Chrysanthemums on the graves of
relatives and friends.
Despite
their morbid denotation, I actually find them cheerful. On cold November days,
they remind me of the bright summer sun.
Have a
great weekend,
Sara
PS: Remember and wear a poppy
thanks for the video, Sara! It made me smile :-) Happy weekend to you, too!

I didn't know that chrysanthemums symbolized death, the thing that always comes to my mind when I think of them is a part in the Anne of Green Gables where the class is asked to spell it. :)
ReplyDeleteif you were a little less of a gentleman you could get away with a very small bouquet and say it was symbolic of 'la petite mort' (cheeky) x
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Love the ochre hues.
