King cake

rois1 rois2 rois3

Last Sunday, my family and I celebrated the Epiphany. The tradition consists in eating a ‘Galette des Rois’ (King cake) in celebration of the arrival of the Wise Men.

Inside the cake there is a little porcelain figurine and whoever finds it becomes the king or queen for the day (and gets to wear a pretty gold crown).

This year I decided to make the galette – speculoos & pear frangipane – myself. I also decorated the table with gold (chocolate) coins and frankincense & myrrh scented candles (representing the gifts that the Wise Men brought with them).

Love,
Sara

  5. I love Epiphany and the galette des rois almost more than Christmas - it feels wrong to say so, but I really do. And your galette sounds just lovely, the addition of speculoos would be delicious!

  7. J'adore Galette du Rois! The patisserie I work at makes such amazing ones, the original frangipane as well as apple cinnamon ones and mmm. My family is celebrating this weekend! So funny to come across someone in the blog world who also celebrates it - that's rare!

Merci beaucoup!

Come a little bit closer, hear what I have to say. Just like children sleepin', we could dream this night away.
