Animal Farm

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled If you didn't care what happened to me,
And I didn't care for you,
We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain.
Wondering which of the buggars to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing.

While I was in London I was fortunate to go to Battersea Power station.
A power station?

On an early December morning in 1976, photographs for the cover of Pink Floyd’s Animals album were taken. A huge inflatable pink pig was attached to one of the towers. It is still a mystery if the inflatable pig escaped or was released on purpose to increase the publicity of the album after the pictures were taken. No one knows. The album was officially launched at an event at the power station in January 1977 and was a worldwide success.

As I said in my previous post, I have a thing for iconic rock memorabilia/places. When I first went to London four years ago, I just couldn’t leave without crossing the Abbey Road crosswalk. On another trip to Amsterdam, I was lucky enough to visit the Hilton hotel room where John Lennon and Yoko Ono held their Bed-in in 1969.
Such memorable moments that I will never forget.

When I came home a few days later, I heard the terrible news of an Asian company buying the place. They will bring the abandoned power station down and build a shopping mall. It’s pretty ironic if you ask me as Animals is a concept album based on the flaws of capitalism.

PS: The album was was also based on George Orwell’s novel, ‘Animal Farm’.

Edit: A dear blogging friend of mine told me that the building is actually on the 'Grade 2' heritage building list so they can't demolish it!

For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled When I first heard the news, I could hardly believe it.
Yes, it’s true, Hard Rock Café is coming to Brussels, Belgium!

Two weeks ago, I was lucky to attend the ‘Hard Hat Tour’ organized by Hard Rock Café offering an exclusive sneak peek into what will become one of the most crowded places on the famous Grand Place.

Most of the memorabilia was still covered in bubble wrap and dust but the authentic Hard Rock Café feeling was already present.
Memorabilia will include; John Lennon’s hat and handwritten note, Paul Simonon’s (Clash) leather jacket, John Entwistle’s (The Who) bass guitar, Johnny Cash’s handwritten lyrics to “Starkville City Jail” and many more.

In August, we will finally be able to enjoy a tasty burger while listening to great rock music.

PS: the official opening date has not been announced yet but I will keep you posted.

H&M Fall preview

I wasn’t sure when I was going to post these pictures (it’s summer after all) but as Western Europe has been having autumnish weather, I was thinking I might post them now.

I was kindly invited by H&M at the preview of their upcoming Fall collection. Autumn is my favorite season and once the sales hit July, it’s all I can think about.
I was happy to see that mustard (my favorite!) is still a popular color and that big big big sweaters are making a comeback.

I was also totally smitten with the guys collection, you must take your boyfriend shopping at H&M and steal everything afterwards ;)

Thank you H&M for this lovely afternoon.

PS: Most of the clothes are in stores now.

Sky Cats - The London Issue

I am off to London for the next three days...
Any last minute recommendations?

Come a little bit closer, hear what I have to say. Just like children sleepin', we could dream this night away.
